(Overview)WHAT IS  Chin Augmentation

A chin implant is designed to bring balance to facial features, usually by augmenting a weak chin. Dr. Giuffre often performs chin augmentation using an implant to help Edmonton patients enhance the area and attain a more defined chin to create facial coherence and improve their overall look.

Chin implant surgery can improve the balance of the face, increasing self-confidence as a result.

Dr. Giuffre has been performing chin augmentation lifts in Edmonton with excellent cosmetic results for many years. Whatever your reasons for surgery are, Dr. Giuffre personalizes the procedure according to your needs and treatment goals to obtain your ideal face.

CANDIDATES FOR Chin Augmentation

The chin implant procedure is ideal for a patient with a weak chin and/or prominent nose. A reliable guide in assessing whether the chin is recessed (“weak”) is to look at the relationship of your lower lip projection and the chin projection in profile. If you drop an imaginary line from the lower lip to the floor, the chin should touch or almost touch this line. In other words, the chin and the lower lip almost line up exactly on this imaginary line.

Candidates for the procedure should be in good overall health, and have no preexisting medical conditions that can affect the procedure’s success. Furthermore, your facial bones must have reached their physical maturity. This generally occurs in your mid to late teens.

Chin Augmentation Consultation

Summary of what to expect - type of procedure, implant, customization. The various surgical options for chin augmentation will be reviewed with the patient in consultation with Dr. Giuffre

Chin Augmentation  PROCEDURE

The chin implant procedure takes less than an hour to perform, and is done under local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia, depending on patient preference and what Dr. Giuffre thinks is best

There are two different types of chin surgery; however, implantation (mentoplasty) is the most common and sought after procedure. This is used for a chin augmentation using an implant. There are a variety of implant types (silicone and non-silicone), shapes, and sizes, all of which are customized to the patient. The small chin will be approached using an incision along the inside of the mouth which does not leave an exposed scar.

On the other hand, patients with adequate jaw bone may be candidates for a mandibular slide procedure, where their own bone is used to augment the chin, without using an implant. This procedure is done under General Anaesthetic and requires a skin incision under the chin area. This approach will leave a scar. This will not affect the teeth or the occlusion (“bite”)
